The Schlumpers

'The Schlumpers' is a group of Hamburg-based artists with various handicaps and individual artistic approaches.

They share a studio without having a joint concept that usually governs groups of artists.

Their first studio was set up in 1984 in a building of Alsterdorfer Anstalten, called 'Stadthaus Schlump' – hence the name.

Their exhibitions in Germany and abroad, from Chicago to Prague with wide media coverage and many catalogue and book publications have made 'The Schlumpers' a well-known institution with many friends, collectors and supporters far beyond Hamburg's boundaries. Their motives are used for art in connection with buildings projects, posters, record covers, etc. and can be found on many Berendsohn AG products.

Schlumpers member Bettina Arelt has designed the "Mare" motives for the COOL series.

Since 2002 the Schlumpers' studio has been a department of Alsterdorfer Werkstätten, called alsterarbeit gGmbH (non-profit-making company).  'The Schlumpers' are freelance artists who obtain a regular income by marketing their works of art.
